 FADING DREAMS

Life's hopes and dreams fade as the smoke from a cigarette
Twists and twirls into the air then disappears.
What is there to show for life, nothing but emptiness.
Accept the pains that life inflicts,
Try to find a way through the choking fog.
How 1 wish I could always be in the beautiful rain
That falls all around you, mingling with your helpless tears.
Hiding you in its ignominy. People hurry by to get home
Not even seeing you, A ghost in the passing
Time has passed you by, but days go on,
They dawn and die and bring only heartache.
Hopes and trust are violated
Words are false and faces untrue,
Eyes that smile lie and voices that seem soft are hard.
We are like birds and animals scratching for food
And finding only synthetic substitutes.
