The Poetry and Thoughts of Jane Carol

SHE DID NOT LEAVE

Don't waste your tears on self-pity
She did not leave you
See this river - these are her tears
She was taken by another, rough and cruel.
Her innocence torn from her,
Her precious gift for you stolen away
Then discarded with it's wrapping
Her very soul.
She did not leave, but now lies
Her milk white skin turning grey as death works its wicked spell.
But her heart - that he couldn't touch
Pure and belonging to only you,
It's last beat was yours - it beats still
To infinity with pure, untouched devotion
Yes, as she lived she was yours
And so she died - loving one man
No other.
So take her and keep her
Locked in your heart
Where none will ever touch her
Treasure her precious memory and
Go your way, not in self-pity
But in joy for the innocent and
True love she had, undefiled and true
Would that I had a heart as true
Beating next to mine
