HELLO WEED

Hello desolate weed.
Yes, it's me again, walking
Past your domain wishing I were you.
You were one of the most
Beautiful flowers in the world to me.
Your mauve petals proudly smiled
As he gave you to me.
Imagine that, humble weed,
Two adults laughing and sharing
An emotion, supposedly love.
There were no 'upper class' flowers around
That he could give me,
But to me you meant more
Than the rarest orchid.
Now when I pass you, I feel
My heart breaking within me.
You are dying now
And my heart feels heavy,
Tears fill my eyes as I pass you by.
In your place have grown
Untouchable thistles. I too am a thistle
Prickly, untouchable and unfriendly.
Yet unlike them, I feel inside
Alone and forsaken, not understanding
This hostile world.
Would that I too, were inanimate
For though I exist I cannot erase
The thoughts and emotions that course
Through my body. Oh common weed
Would that I were you.
